It was at Daniel Hechter that my path crossed with Patrick Hamelle and Patrick Harmand. I was convinced back then that there was a spot waiting to be created in the world of children’s clothing: one for elegant, fitting garments designed with respect, gentleness and care. Driven by this intuition, we decided to join forces. Jacadi was born in 1976. Its name came naturally, a playful nod to my husband Jacques and the famous "Jacadi a dit" [Simon Says] from our childhood.
I had a very clear vision for Jacadi: to design fashion tailored to children, capturing all the tenderness, playfulness, lightheartedness, and freshness that childhood brings. I wanted to stand apart from contemporary trends and preserve something timeless: pinafore dresses for school, bloomers, beautifully finished blouses, smocking, and prints that tell a story. I started out designing the collections on my own, without a design office, using just my ideas and whatever resources were at hand.
I wanted Jacadi to be a welcoming, cheerful, and generous fashion house, capable of speaking to every family. To me, a child is love falling from heaven to earth, fragile yet full of future potential. That is what I wanted to pass on: a gentle and elegant France, yet never locked into its traditional rules.
When I look at the brand today, I am moved to see that same DNA alive. Fifty years later, it has grown and evolved, but I still recognize the same love for the product and the same respect for the child. I am leaving behind a baby that has truly grown up, and I am proud of it.
